How CPUT APS calculation works
CPUT uses percentage-based APS methods. Method 1 adds six academic percentages and divides by ten. Method 2 doubles Mathematics and Physical Sciences, adds English and one other subject, then divides by ten. Life Orientation is excluded.
Method reviewed 15 October 2026. Intake: Confirm for your selected programme.
Choose the CPUT method before comparing totals
The calculation method is part of the CPUT programme requirement. One set of school marks can produce different totals under different methods because the weighted subjects change. This calculator therefore offers a method selector instead of applying the NSC one-to-seven table. Method 1 is a percentage sum; Method 2 places greater weight on Mathematics and Physical Sciences. Mathematical Literacy must not be renamed Mathematics for a weighted method.
Before comparing a programme target
Method 3 is shown as an illustrative Accounting calculation using the three-other-subject worked-example convention. The brochure wording and example are not fully consistent about the number of additional subjects. Confirm the programme interpretation before relying on that result. This page does not automatically assign a method to a qualification or present an uncertain method mapping as settled.
Worked example for CPUT
Illustration only: the six academic marks are 68%, 60%, 66%, 68%, 67%, 74%, with Life Orientation at 84%. This form returns 40.3 CPUT APS. The result uses the displayed method, not a programme admission threshold. Read the table to see each included subject and its contribution. Change one academic mark at a time to see whether it crosses a points band or changes a percentage-based total. A higher elective only displaces another subject when that other subject is not compulsory.
How to use the CPUT APS calculator
Start with one consistent set of school results for Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Enter six academic percentages, choose the correct subject names and identify each language level. Add further eligible academic subjects only if you actually completed them. Mark programme-required subjects so they remain in the selected set. Enter Life Orientation in its own field. Select Calculate and check the included-subject column before reading the headline. Copy or print the result if you want a record for your application planning.
Planning your CPUT application
Use the full qualification name when making a CPUT shortlist, and record the intake alongside it. Do not copy an application fee, closing date or minimum from a different intake. A page about admission points does not establish that applications are open. Keep the application confirmation, submitted school results and any programme-specific documents together. If a selection condition is unclear, resolve that point before treating a score comparison as a completed application check.
