Concrete Bags Calculator South Africa

Use the Concrete Bags Calculator South Africa for complete concrete premix. Convert required finished volume to whole bags or packs, or convert existing full bags to finished m³. Use the exact product yield, with optional coverage depth, dry package mass and current quotes.

Calculate your result

Illustrative example only: 12 finished litres per bag, taken from this page’s existing arithmetic example. Replace these figures with the exact product data and specified project layout before ordering.

Quick answer

At a hypothetical 12 L finished yield per bag, 1 m³ needs 84 whole bags before extra allowance. Ten existing bags yield 0.12 m³. The 12 L value is an arithmetic example, not a yield inferred from a 20 kg or 40 kg bag.

How it works

Use the Concrete Bags Calculator South Africa for complete concrete premix. Convert required finished volume to whole bags or packs, or convert existing full bags to finished m³. Use the exact product yield, with optional coverage depth, dry package mass and current quotes.

Formula

Purchase bags = round up(required finished litres × (1 + extra allowance/100) ÷ declared finished litres per bag), then round to packs if selected. Existing bag volume in m³ = bag count × declared litres per bag ÷ 1000.

Assumptions and common mistakes

Check units, input values and the method before relying on an estimate. Review the existing tool notes and official sources below.

Formula

Purchase bags = round up(required finished litres × (1 + extra allowance/100) ÷ declared finished litres per bag), then round to packs if selected. Existing bag volume in m³ = bag count × declared litres per bag ÷ 1000.

How to use the premix concrete bags calculator

Choose required volume to purchased bags, or existing bags to finished volume. Required volume accepts m³, litres or cubic yards. Add an allowance only when it is not already in that volume. Inventory mode adds neither waste nor purchase packs. The blank finished-yield field must be completed from the actual product data.

How many bags of ready mix concrete per m³?

Divide 1000 L by declared finished litres per bag. This is a nominal ratio; round up for an individual one-m³ requirement, then apply any agreed allowance and purchasing rules to the actual project. With a hypothetical 12 L yield, the nominal ratio is 83.333 bags/m³ and a one-m³ purchase is 84 bags before extra allowance. No universal bag count follows from dry mass alone.

40 kg, 20 kg and concrete bags to m³

Package mass and finished yield describe different quantities. Enter the declared yield even when a bag is labelled 40 kg or 20 kg. The optional dry mass input only totals packaged material mass; it never sets yield. Existing-bag mode multiplies the full bag count by the supplied yield without an allowance or extra pack rounding.

Complete premix, cement bags and truck ready-mix

Check the contents and instructions. A complete dry concrete mix contains the required concrete ingredients, while cement alone needs a confirmed aggregate recipe and yield. Product names such as building mix or ready mix can describe different items. Wet truck-delivered readymix is a different supply method. Use the main Concrete Calculator for confirmed recipe scaling or ready-mix quotes.

Bags per m² and 80 square feet

Area needs specified depth before volume can be calculated. Convert square feet to m² using 0.09290304, then multiply by depth in metres. One bag’s geometric coverage is finished bag m³ divided by depth. Optional depth here reports coverage; it does not choose a slab thickness or change the known-volume order. Use the Premix Concrete Calculator for measured shapes and depths.

Fence post concrete bags

Calculate the concrete-filled hole volume after subtracting the buried post volume, using the actual specified geometry. For a concentric round hole and round post, volume is π × (hole diameter² − post diameter²) ÷ 4 × filled depth, with dimensions in metres. Add all holes before bag rounding. The related Premix Concrete Calculator includes post-hole shapes. This tool does not set footing depth, hole diameter or fence design.

Concrete bags prices and availability

Enter a current price for the exact full bag and any delivery charge on one VAT basis. The total uses selected purchased bags or existing bag count. The nominal material rate per m³ excludes delivery and pack effects, so it is not a completed project price. 99tools does not load live prices, stock, nearby suppliers or sale offers. Confirm contents, yield, product date, pack terms and delivery with the branch.

25 MPa, high strength and retaining walls

A strength label does not specify a universal yield or cement bag count. Use the exact product rating, instructions and required project specification; the calculator does not design M15, 25 MPa or 3000 psi mixes or select mixing water. A volume estimate is not approval to use unopened bags as retaining-wall units. Retaining structures need a suitable engineered system and site-specific drainage and stability assessment.

Frequently asked questions

How many 40 kg concrete bags make 1 m³?

Use the exact finished yield, not the mass alone. Divide 1000 L by litres per bag and round for the actual order.

How do I convert concrete bags to m³?

Choose existing bag count and multiply by declared finished litres per bag divided by 1000. No extra allowance or pack rounding is added.

Are premix concrete bags the same as cement bags?

No. Complete premix and cement-only bags require different calculation methods. Check the product contents.

How many bags do I need for a fence post?

Calculate the concrete-filled hole volume after post displacement, then use the product yield. The tool does not choose post-hole design dimensions.

How many bags cover 80 square feet?

Depth and finished bag yield are needed. Area alone cannot determine the concrete volume or bag count.

Does 25 MPa determine bags per cubic metre?

No. Strength specification and finished bag yield are different information. Use the exact product data and required design.

Are the concrete bag prices live?

No. Costs use only the bag price and delivery quote you enter, without extra VAT.
